Ron always
wanted a guitar and at the age of 7 was bought one by his parents
he never really put the thing down and was in bands, writing songs,
playing gigs and entering competitions by 12 years old.
Bands of note include Streamlines, Tempest, Film Crew, Magic Johnson,
Monster and Dawg House yet in all of these bands Ron played bass
or double bass.
Spider Murphy was in fact the first band where Ron assumed lead guitar
duties.
Many of the above bands recorded demos and attained great reviews,
Monster in fact reached dizzy heights when they performed live
on radio one on the Tommy Vance Rock show along side L7, Mr Big
and The Quireboys.
They were also included on the “Rock the Canary” CD
which was distributed throughout the UK.
Ron later took his musical talents in other directions and studied
towards grade 8’s in electric guitar and bass and then proceeded
to take both examinations on the same day. The Rock School Board
were so impressed that the offered him a job examining for them
which he did for
two years.
A degree was the next on the agenda and Ron read classical music
at the UEA, graduating in ’00 with a very high 2:1. He was
then accepted at Cambridge University for a Music PGCE which he
passed with flying
colours, having since been invited back several times to teach
improvisation
to music graduates.

Ron currently teaches Music Technology at Paston Sixth Form College
but has taught guitar and bass guitar for the last 12 years. He
has worked in studios as a session player on both guitar and bass
and this has also been a great source of contacts in the music
business. Ron is a keen composer and is currently working with
Musicbank , a successful distribution company on various projects
including chill-out/ambient music. He is also a member of the Musician’s
Union and the Performing Rights Society.
In the future Ron wants to do more recording work whether it involves
session work or composing music for film soundtracks and television.
Ron also aims to continue to improve his musical skills and aspires
to become better known as a leading guitarist. His playing styles
have been likened to many of the greats including Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Jimi Hendrix and Robben Ford all of which are of great inspiration
to Ron.
