A natural
musician from the start, Charlotte began learning piano as a young
girl and worked her way through her classical grades – now
holding a grade 8 certificate. Singing was something Charlotte always
loved and has been active in various choirs as a girl, yet she
had not contemplated singing professionally until she heard Ron’s
music and started putting lyrics to it. The next step seemed natural,
and
they began writing more original material together. If you’re
wondering who ‘Joyce’ is
in the writing credits this was Charlotte’s maiden name before
Ron and Charlotte decided to take the plunge.
Charlotte found the record company interest very exciting however
it saddened her to discover the questionable politics of the darker
side of the London music scene and both Ron and Charlotte decided
that it was not the way they wanted to move forward.
Like Ron, Charlotte also became in demand in the London studios for
session work normally adding backing vocals to various tracks.
Another competition led to another outstanding opportunity for
her when she won a vocal course at the prestigious London Music
School. It was a brilliant time of study and partying with some
really talented stars who teach there between tours. Not only could they pass on
singing know-how but were willing to disclose inside knowledge
about the
business and lifestyle. This studying led Charlotte to qualify
further and alongside
classical grades compelled her to attain grade 8 on a contemporary
level
with Trinity College’s Rockschool. This in turn led
to presenting workshops for Rockschool and she is hoping to commit
more time to this as time goes on – along with gigs, sessions,
piano and singing teaching!

Her soulful tones have earned her some excellent reviews and she
has been likened
to many outstanding vocalists such as Aretha Franklin, Anastasia and Eva Cassidy.
Charlotte has been enjoying depping for other local acts including “Heart
and Soul” and “Abbababes”, an Abba Tribute act. The Spider
Murphy act is also back on the scene after quite a break. The dates have been
eagerly awaited by
the long-standing loyal fans. An updated repertoire and a breath of new life
is what’s in store and this will hopefully attract new faces adding to
the next generation of fans! All of these different acts give quite a diverse
outlook on the business from attracting “musos” at one end
of the spectrum to entertaining all generations in the cabaret hall – all
of these situations keep her on her toes and uses all of her skills.
Variety certainly is the spice of live music.
